It happened in a gated community in Tigre. An Edenor technical team discovered the crime and warned the authorities.

A user had to more than a million pesos in invoices to Edenor, and when they went to disconnect the service for non-payment, they detected a repeated fraud with a direct underground connection. The incident occurred during a routine check, in a closed neighborhood of Tiger.

A technical team from the company went to the home to verify the suspension of supply, since the customer owed more than $1,400,000. It was there that they reported about a clandestine connection, so the corresponding report was made with police presence and a criminal case was initiated for energy theft due to manipulation of the electrical grid.

The client was already suspended for a debt due to unpaid invoices, but was reconnected twice through a clandestine connectionwhich was carried out from a socket box to the meter, in order to prevent it from being easily detected.

Thus, it was found that the client manipulated the electrical installations on two occasions to reconnect without paying the debt, repeating the same methodology that had been used previously.

Energy theft, a crime

Energy theft is a crime of public action, which has penalties of up to 6 years in prison and fines of 40% of the debt plus energy recovery expenses, verification, taxes and contributions.
