Almost 3,300 applications were received for the German ESC preliminary round with the jury headed by Stefan Raab. RTL and ARD announced that 3,281 individual artists and bands applied for the event. These include established artists with “impressive careers”. Names were not mentioned. The oldest applicant is therefore 83 years old.

Four live shows scheduled

On February 14th, 15th and 22nd, RTL will broadcast three live pre-selection shows. In the fourth live show on March 1st on the first it will be determined who will be traveling to Basel for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Germany. In the last live show, the viewers should have it in their hands as to who will be the German winning act in the preliminary round. The private broadcaster RTL and the public broadcaster ARD – NDR is in charge of the ARD – are cooperating in the preliminary decision.

At the end of October it was announced that entertainer Stefan Raab would be part of the jury for the German preliminary round. It is still unclear who the other jury members will be. Raab said at the end of October that under certain circumstances he could also imagine writing a song for the artist. He doesn’t even want to run as an ESC candidate. The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Basel in May 2025 because Switzerland won this year.
