That’s why their Christmas tour 2024 is special

The Advent season will be very special for Stefanie Hertel this year: because she is on a Christmas tour with her husband and daughter for the first time.

At the end of the year, pop star Stefanie Hertel (45) is really stepping on the gas again: from November 29th to December 23rd she is touring through Germany with her husband Lanny Lanner (49) and daughter Johanna Mross (23). She has been busy advertising the “Family Christmas Tour” on her Instagram account over the past few weeks. For Hertel, the tour is an emotional affair: After the death of her beloved father Eberhard in June, she has to give concerts without him for the first time in the run-up to Christmas. But she has new family reinforcements on stage.

She will also be appearing alongside DJ Ötzi (53) in the program “Magic Christmas in the Land of the Silent Night” (December 20th, 8:15 p.m., MDR). In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Stefanie Hertel explains why none of this is stressful for her despite the upcoming festival, why her daughter can be there for the first time and how she has long been planning for her own Christmas.

What are you particularly looking forward to on your “Family Christmas Tour”?

Stefanie Hertel: About being on a Christmas tour with my daughter for the first time. So far she still had school obligations. Now she has finished her training and is also very happy to be traveling with us. Lanny, Johanna and I are going on a Christmas tour as a family for the first time and that makes it particularly nice. That’s why our tour is called “Family Christmas”

You are on stage almost every evening during Advent – how do you cope with this enormous workload, especially in the contemplative period before Christmas?

Hertel: For us it’s not a “job”, but a passion for making music on stage and being able to celebrate Christmas with the audience. And since we’re also on the road with family and spend every day of the tour with our band and crew – who are all friends of ours – every effort is rewarded with fulfillment and joy.

Will you also visit one or two Christmas markets in between?

Hertel: Yes, that’s always part of our Christmas tours.

What is your favorite Christmas song?

Hertel: Lanny and Johanna have chosen their favorite Christmas song from the film “Polar Express”, it’s called “Believe”. It really touches me how they both sing it together. One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs is “Are the Lights Turned On?” This song has accompanied me since my childhood and we are bringing it to the stage for “Family Christmas” this year.

And how will you spend Christmas yourself?

Hertel: Traditionally, like every year, with the family at home. Since our tour lasts until December 23rd, we won’t be home until Christmas Eve. Then we get the tree that we chose in November. A farmer in the region has a small Christmas tree farm. Afterwards we have cheese fondue, mulled wine and in the evening we walk to our little church, where the whole village meets.

What else is on your Christmas menu?

Hertel: On Christmas Eve it has to be cheese fondue because we all love it and it’s quick and easy to prepare. Lanny bakes some good bread with it. On one of the holidays I cook a vegetarian feast; last year it was a chestnut and nut roast with red cabbage and dumplings. And I am sure that our pastry chef Johanna will spoil us with a delicious cake!

Are there any traditions that you particularly value?

Hertel: The Christmas tree is always something special for us. My little angels from the Erzgebirge decorate it, the wooden stars that my grandpa sawed out and the folded stars from my aunt Erika. And real candles light up on the tree. This is particularly festive.

Do you actually have all the presents together yet?

Hertel: No, but that will definitely happen on tour… We have the credo that we don’t give ourselves anything unnecessary, rather something small that comes from the heart. All that matters to us is that we are together.

And what do you wish for yourself?

Hertel: I want time with my family, health and peace.
