US President Joe Biden (79) apparently noticed too late that his microphone was still on. After a press event in the White House, some of those present were able to hear what he thought about reporter Peter Doocy (34) from Fox News. According to US media reports, Biden is said to have said about him: “What a stupid son of a bitch”.
Doocy had previously asked Biden on his way out if high inflation could hurt him in the midterm elections. “No, that’s a big advantage. More inflation,” the president is said to have said ironically in a low voice before the insulting words apparently followed.
Peter Doocy remains calm
Doocy himself takes the incident calmly. on his show that Biden contacted him on his cell phone “within about an hour of this exchange” to discuss what happened.
According to Doocy, Biden explained that “it was nothing personal”. The US President encouraged him to continue to ask different questions than everyone else. “So I’ll continue,” said the reporter. Doocy also declared of Biden: “I don’t need anyone to apologize to me. He can call me whatever he wants as long as it makes him talk!”
On the show “The Five”, Doocy said he hadn’t heard the insult himself, only a little later someone told him. When moderator Jesse Watters (43) teased him and joked that Biden was right about Doocy, he replied: “Yes, nobody has done a fact check and said it’s not true.”
