Much was written about the 39th edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festivalin the midst of national management cuts National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA). Even so, the closing ceremony expressed the quality and variety of a new shortlist of winners.

The only Class A festival had the Belgian film as its main winner On the edge of the worldby Guérin van de Voorst and Sophie Muselle, whose global premiere was precisely in Mar del Plata.


Argentine cinema took home its award for best direction, with recognition for Matías Lucchesi by The landlord. In addition, the Astor Piazzolla Lifetime Achievement Awards were awarded to the director and producer Héctor Olivera and Pablo Helmanvisual effects specialist technician.
