New payment method on the subway: questions and answers to find out how it works

1. Will cards from all banks be able to be used?

In the first stage, credit and debit cards from the two main operators of all banks or associated with virtual wallets can be used. Also devices with NFC technology with cards enabled by each bank for this use, with any compatible wallet, such as Gpay, ApplePay, among others.

2. Is any prior procedure or registration required to use these new payment methods?

It is not necessary to carry out any procedure, just use the exclusive turnstiles to use these new payment methods.

If the customer’s card is very old and does not have contactless activated (you can identify it because the contactless logo appears on the front of the card), the customer can request a replacement.

For NFC enabled wallets (Like Modo or Google Pay), the card must be previously enrolled in the wallet and activated for use in Contactless – NFC mode.

3. Is the ticket price the same regardless of the payment method used?

The full rate is paid, currently $757. With these new payment methods, you will also be able to access the benefit of a staggered fare for frequent subway passengers, with discounts of 20, 30 and 40% for more than 20, 30 and 40 trips respectively, as long as the same card is used and payment method (digital or physical). In addition, virtual banks and wallets will add promotions.

4. Do validators have to have Internet? How do you validate that the payment was actually made?

Everything works offline and in less than two seconds the validator reads the payment made. The user will see the consumption on their card at the end of the day.

5. Can passes and subscriptions be added?

The benefits and special rates will be available only on the beneficiary’s SUBE card.

6. How are passes for retirees, people with disabilities and social rates managed without having a SUBE card?

7. Can you also pay with a Smartwatch?

Yes, as long as it has NFC.

8. Can I pay for several trips at the same time with the same card?

You can pay for 10 trips per day and up to 4 trips per hour with the same card.

9. What happens if the person brings their wallet containing different contactless cards to the reader, which one is charged with the payment?

There is no way to set a preferential card when they are physical, unlike what NFC technology allows through mobile phones. For this reason, if the person wants the payment to be made on a specific card, they only have to bring that specific card closer to the reader.

10. Can payments be made with cards issued outside of Argentina?

Yeah. As long as they are from the main operators.

11. Can the SUBE be used in the new multi-payment machines?

No, the SUBE can only be used on common turnstiles that do not support multipayment.

12. How do these consumptions appear in the account movements and card summaries, with what detail?

Depending on the brand of the card, consumption may appear as a single transaction that accumulates the day’s trips or as individual payments for each trip. It is indicated in the legend that it corresponds to a subway trip and the name of the operator (Emova).

13. Are the SUBE network discounts still valid?

Yes, passengers will be able to use the SUBE card to access the benefits of the SUBE Network (with discounts for trips made within two hours: 50% on the second ticket and 75% from the third). This benefit will not work with the new payment methods.
