Model Luciana Curtis visited her Brazilian homeland with her family. A visit to a restaurant ended dramatically: the 47-year-old and her relatives were attacked and kidnapped.
She worked for the lingerie label Victoria’s Secret, appeared in a cosmetics advertisement with singer Beyoncé Knowles and walked the catwalk alongside superstar Gisele Bündchen: Luciana Curtis has completed numerous glamorous jobs in her modeling career. The 47-year-old lives in New York with her husband, photographer Henrique Gendre, and their two daughters. A stay in her native Brazil now became a nightmare for Curtis.
According to several local media reports, Curtis, her husband and their 11-year-old daughter Dahlia were kidnapped after dinner last Wednesday and held captive for several hours. The perpetrators ambushed the family outside a restaurant in São Paulo’s posh Alto da Lapa district and forced them to get into their own car at gunpoint. The kidnappers took the family to Brasilândia, a favela northwest of São Paulo. There, Curtis and her relatives were housed in a wooden hut with only a stained mattress, a dirty sink and a dirty toilet. According to reports, the criminals forced Curtis and Gendre to reveal their account details and stole tens of thousands of dollars.

Model Luciana Curtis and her family are doing well
The ordeal didn’t end until the next day, after the couple’s older daughter reported her parents missing to a relative. He alerted the police. While the officers searched for the missing people, the perpetrators managed to escape. They previously released Curtis and her relatives. Residents of the favela eventually helped the family and brought them to safety. A spokeswoman for Way Model Management, where Curtis is signed, told local media: “The family has been released and is doing well.” According to police, everyone involved was “very emotionally shaken.” The officials have now started the investigation.
Luciana Curtis was discovered as a teenager. In 1993 she made it into the top 5 in the “Supermodel of the World” competition and then worked for luxury brands such as Gucci and Marc Jacobs. “My mother is a history teacher, my father was an insurance agent. I never thought I would work in fashion,” she told Marie Claire magazine about her career. Now Curtis should be especially happy that she and her family survived the kidnapping.
