Sir Elton recently said he lost sight in one eye. New statements do not indicate an improvement.
Elton John wrote the music for “The Devil Wears Prada” – but the British pop star couldn’t watch the musical because of his poor eyesight. “As some of you may know, I had problems and have now lost my eyesight,” British media quoted the 77-year-old as saying at the premiere in London. “I didn’t get to see the performance, but I enjoyed it.”
Sir Elton made it public in September that he had no vision in his right eye since an eye infection in July. He recently said in an interview that the left was “not the best either.” British media interpreted his new statements to mean that his condition has worsened.
“I’m still here”
Nevertheless, the singer was defiant. “I have no tonsils, no adenoids and no appendix,” Radio Times quoted him as saying. “I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip and a left knee and a right knee. In fact, the only thing left of me is my left hip. But I’m still here.”
His husband David Furnish (62) led John off the stage, the reports said. The singer praised his partner as a “rock”.
Furnish also directed the documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” about the musician’s life (“Rocket Man”). In it, John says about their sons Zachary (13) and Elijah (11): “I would like to see our children get married. But I don’t think I’ll live to see that.”
