This past weekend, Apple Martin, the daughter of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, was welcomed into polite society. At her side: a German nobleman.
Anyone who danced at “le Bal” last weekend probably falls into the category of Nepo babies, i.e. children of well-heeled or famous people. At the dance ball, a group of 16 to 22 year old young women are symbolically accepted into high society. This year, among them was Apple Martin, the daughter of Coldplay singer Chris Martin and entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow.

The debutantes from high society mainly wear haute couture dresses for the special occasion, including Apple, who was dressed by Valentino and wore a tailor-made, sky blue dress. And the young man at the 20-year-old’s side is no stranger either. Count Leo Henckel von Donnersmarck comes from the Old Silesian noble family Henckel von Donnersmarck. Meanwhile, his father is likely to be a name known to film buffs in particular. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck won the Oscar for best foreign language film in 2007 for his work “The Lives of Others”.
After his huge success with the political thriller, he filmed “The Tourist” with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, which, however, was not a success. A few years later, the drama “Work without an Author” earned him another Oscar nomination.
Prince Harry turns 40: from rebellious rascal to royal superstar
On September 15, 1984, Prince Henry Charles Albert David, better known as Prince Harry, was born in London as the second child of the then Prince Charles and Princess Diana. As per royal tradition, Diana posed with her newborn on the steps of the Lindo Wing of London’s St. Mary’s Hospital shortly after giving birth. At the time, no one suspected that Prince Harry would break this tradition together with his future wife Meghan 35 years later

Leo’s sister was also a debutante
The debutante ball is nothing new for the noble family. Leo’s sister Lara was one of the young women accepted into high society there a year ago. The organizer of the ball knew her parents, the student told the magazine “Gala” at the time. “I received my first personal invitation when I was 14. Unfortunately, I’ve been too busy for the last few years, but this time it finally worked out. I can even open the ball – a great privilege. My father and I will dance a waltz,” she said in the interview.
Her cavalier at the time was also a nobleman: Karl-Konstantin von Habsburg. “My cavalier is the brother of my very good friend Zsofia, who took part in le Bal as a debutante last year. (…) Le Bal feels a bit like coming home,” she said about the prestigious event.

For the Martin-Paltrows, the weekend in Paris was a small family reunion. Apple Martin’s mother Gwyneth Paltrow posted photos on Instagram showing her ex-husband Chris Martin as well as their son Moses and Paltrow’s mother Blythe Danner.
