Nicole Kidman talks about her uninhibited role in “Babygirl” and what her late mother would say about it.
Most actresses don’t like being reduced to sexual things. Nicole Kidman (57) says the opposite in a recent interview. For the 57-year-old Oscar winner, it was “really nice” to be seen “as a sexual being” in her new film, the erotic thriller “Babygirl,” she tells the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter.”
The screen beauty further emphasizes that she is proud of how the work of director Halina Reijn (49) portrays the sexuality of older women. “Women are often discarded as sexual beings in a certain phase of their career,” criticizes the mother of three. The film changes this image by showing her getting lost in an uninhibited affair.
“It was really nice to be seen in that way. From the first minute I read the script I was like, ‘Yeah, […] “It’s a place I haven’t been to, and I don’t think the audience has been there either,” said Kidman. “My character has reached a stage where she has all this power, but she doesn’t know herself sure of who she is, what she wants, what she desires, even though she seems to have it all. And I think that’s really understandable.”
In the film, Tom Cruise’s ex-wife (62) plays a CEO named Romy, who puts her job, her family and her marriage (her husband is Antonio Banderas, 64) at risk when she embarks on an affair with one young intern named Samuel (played by “Triangle of Sadness” star Harris Dickinson, 28).
“The most disturbing film you’ve ever seen”
“There are a lot of women who ask themselves, ‘Well, I have kids, I have this man, and what do I actually want? Who am I and what are my desires? Do I have to pretend to be something else to get people to love me? ‘” she continues. “I think this movie is very liberating. I hope it is. Some people have told me it’s the most disturbing movie they’ve ever seen, to which I said, ‘Oh no, I’m so sorry .'”
“The sexuality of the film” is the most dangerous thing about the script. “That it wasn’t written for a 20-year-old. It wasn’t even written for a 30-year-old.” The film “Babygirl” opens in German cinemas on January 30th.
