The story follows the detective Harry Holea crime investigator in Oslo, known for his cunning but also for his self-destructive nature and problems with alcohol, who becomes involved in a disturbing case when a woman disappears during the first snow of winter. At the crime scene, there is a snowman strangely constructed, with disturbing details that seem to symbolize a message.
Over time, Harry discovers that this is not an isolated incident: There is a pattern of murders and disappearances which coincide with the first snowfall, and the snowman always appears as a macabre signature of the murderer. Together with his partner Katrine Brattboth embark on a race against time to catch the person responsible before he kills again.
