“A great footballer, a great person.” The honor for successful footballer Toni Kroos in front of an audience of millions caused emotion and laughter.
Footballer Toni Kroos (34) brought the entire hall to a standing ovation at the ZDF gala “A Heart for Children” – except his little son Leon. Kroos received the honorary award “The Golden Heart” because he has been running a foundation for seriously ill children and their families for years. Moderator Johannes B. Kerner summed up Kroos with the words: “A great footballer, a great person.”
Everywhere in the hall the guests stood up and clapped, only Leon Kroos, born in 2013, smiled happily at his father from the red armchair. Kroos senior caught the little one’s little faux pas charmingly: “Everyone got up except for my son. Fantastic, everything was done right.”
The list of well-known names on the guest list was long. Top politicians included CDU leader Friedrich Merz and his wife Charlotte, former finance minister and FDP leader Christian Lindner and his wife, the journalist Franca Lehfeldt, as well as Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder and his daughter Gloria-Sophie Burkandt.
For example, the actresses Uschi Glas, Simone Thomalla and Valerie Niehaus came from show business, as well as influencers Twenty4tim and Tiktok star Noel Robinson, better known as Noelgoescrazy.
The aid organization “A Heart for Children” has existed for more than 45 years. To date, the association has supported over 25,000 projects with 511 million euros.
