Lindner relies on a discount due to “professional situation”
For former Finance Minister Lindner, distributing money is still a serious matter. When he is asked for a donation at the “A Heart for Children” gala, he makes a sophisticated argument.
Former Finance Minister Christian Lindner showed himself to be a skilled negotiator at the “A Heart for Children” gala. When comedian Hazel Brugger spontaneously approached several prominent guests for generous donations, the FDP leader countered: “You know my professional situation.”
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) dismissed Lindner as minister a month ago in the wake of the break in the traffic light coalition. Lindner – accompanied by his wife, journalist Franca Lehfeld – finally agreed to donate 2,000 euros.
With the amount he was in line with Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), whom comedian Ralf Schmitz had previously asked to donate.
With Friedrich Merz, however, Schmitz was unable to get an immediate concrete number: the CDU leader instead made a cumbersome calculation. He accordingly announced that his donation would be proportionally based on the Union’s future poll numbers. Schmitz finally gave up the project of nailing him down to a sum that evening.
SPD leader Lars Klingbeil, who was the first to be approached by the comedian duo, entered the fundraising race with 500 euros.
All politicians were far outdone by footballer Toni Kroos, who announced a donation of 100,000 euros without batting an eyelid.
“A Heart for Children” is a traditional aid project of the “Bild” newspaper, the gala is broadcast on ZDF.
