Wladimir Klitschko is asking for further help from the West. Ukraine will not be Russia’s final destination: “Today we are talking about the Ukrainian children, tomorrow we will talk about your children.”
The Ukrainian celebrity Wladimir Klitschko used his appearance in the ZDF gala “A Heart for Children” to make an urgent appeal.
“Today we are talking about the Ukrainian children, tomorrow we will talk about your children,” said the ex-boxer and organizer of many aid projects. “I ask that you never forget this: if Ukraine falls, Ukraine will not be the last country in Europe. According to Putin’s vision of war, the war will continue.”
Klitschko was aware of the declining support among parts of the German population: “The war is also being felt in Germany. Prices are getting higher. People won’t want to hear much about Ukraine anymore. People will probably be tired. We’re tired too the front line, behind the front line in Ukraine. But we have no choice but to fight back.” Without the help of the free world, Ukraine will not be able to defend itself for long.
There were several top German politicians in the hall, including CDU chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz, SPD leader Lars Klingbeil, FDP leader Christian Lindner and Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU).
“A Heart for Children” is a traditional aid project of the “Bild” newspaper, the gala is broadcast on ZDF. By the end of the show, donations totaled 23.6 million euros.
