Suit instead of crown – Charles and Camilla show a modest Christmas card

Charles and Camilla have published their Christmas card. The photo of the royals is simpler than last year.

King Charles III (76) and Queen Camilla (77) have presented their Christmas card for 2024. The couple is opting for a simpler version this year than in 2023. The photo chosen for the card ensures this.

Important moment captured

The picture of the smiling couple was taken by Millie Pilkington in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. It was created last April, behind Charles and Camilla pink and purple flowers shine, providing a contrast to the green surroundings. Queen Camilla, who wears a blue wool crepe dress, also adds a splash of color. Charles chose a gray suit and a blue tie, putting his right hand in his pocket for the photo. As the BBC reports, the photo is intended to reflect the moment when some normality returned to the royals’ lives, according to the palace. The king resumed public work in April following his cancer diagnosis.

Bad advice, high stakes: Harry and Meghan are threatened with financial crisis

“We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” are the royals’ contemplative greetings accompanying the picture. Around 2,700 cards will be sent to people around the world. Family members, friends, politicians and organizations, among others, should be able to receive the greetings.

More pomp with Charles and Camilla last year

Last year the royal Christmas card was even more magnificent. The selected photo of the British King and Queen was from their big day of the year: the coronation on May 6th. They can be seen in magnificent clothing, with a crown, coronation tunic and the throne robe.

In 2022, the couple chose a photo from the Highland Games in Scotland, which the king was opening, for their first Christmas greeting as reigning monarchs. It was recorded just five days before the death of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). Charles wore a tweed suit with a red, green and beige tie in the picture, shot by award-winning photographer Samir Hussein. Camilla wore a matching green suit as well as a pheasant hat and pearl earrings.
