Alessandra Meyer-Wölden lost her father when she was just 14 years old. In an interview she talks about the loss and how it shaped her.

Alessandra Meyer-Wölden (42) had to cope with a severe blow of fate at a young age. When the current podcaster and mother of five was just 14 years old, her father died of liver cancer. The early loss had a huge impact on her, as she told me in a recent interview.

Alessandra Meyer-Wölden couldn’t say goodbye

She told the newspaper that she would never forget the anniversary of her father’s death. At that time, she lived with her little brother in Florida at her father’s request. “My mother called and said we had to fly home. We didn’t know if dad was still alive,” said the 42-year-old. “When mom picked us up at Munich airport, she was wearing black. We children couldn’t say goodbye. I had a problem with that for many years.” It was her father’s wish that the children “remember him from the good times.” The illness lasted for years and changed the lawyer.

Alessandra Meyer-Wölden is the daughter of the successful Munich lawyer Axel Meyer-Wölden (1941-1997), who died in 1997 at the age of 56. In Alessandra Meyer-Wölden’s eyes, her “penchant for toxic relationships” has “to do with the early loss of my father.”

“I haven’t been Sandy for a long time”

The 42-year-old has always been characterized by a “strong father image”: “I wanted to please him.” However, her father’s legal career path was not for her. She is now an entrepreneur, author and podcaster. Most people probably know her as Sandy Meyer-Wölden. But she feels like she has outgrown this name for a long time. “Sandy is associated with the cute girl from before, at my successful father’s side,” she says. “I haven’t been Sandy for a long time. Alessandra sounds strong, feminine and mature. I think this name suits me very well.”

Her daughter, who she has with comedian Oliver Pocher (46), is the same age today as she was when she lost her father. “It’s only now that I realize how hard it was for my mother back then. I have great respect for her.” Her marriage to Pocher, with whom she also has twin sons, is a long time ago, but they now live under the same roof again. She experienced a “personal happy ending” with him. “After the separation, we had a difficult time with various arguments. Now we meet in a deep friendship,” said Meyer-Wölden. “We advise each other and know that no matter what, we are there for each other.”

Since Pocher’s separation from Amira Aly (32), the ex-couple has been running the joint podcast “The Pochers! Freshly Recycled”. In it they often talk about their life in a large patchwork family. Meyer-Wölden has twins from her second marriage, which also failed. Pocher also has two other children with his ex-wife Amira.
