Entertainer Robbie Williams celebrated the German premiere of his biopic “Better Man” with his fans in Cologne.
British pop star Robbie Williams (50) surprised his fans at the Cologne Cinedom on Sunday evening, December 8th, for the German premiere of his biopic “Better Man – The Robbie Williams Story”. Dressed in a pink coat, the former “Take That” member appeared on the red carpet, took selfies with his fans and revealed how much the film meant to him.
“Better Man”: The unvarnished truth
Young Williams, portrayed as a monkey, is portrayed in the two-hour film by British actor Jonno Davies (32). The musical film was directed by “Greatest Showman” director Michael Gracey (48), who explained the entertainer’s unusual portrayal in the biopic by saying that he did not want to show Williams as fans would see the British pop star, but as Williams himself see for yourself. The “Angels” interpreter himself previously explained his portrayal as a monkey during his press conference in Cologne as follows: “The real reason is: I’m eccentric and Michael is too.”
The film shows the unvarnished truth about the entertainer’s life, from his childhood in Stoke-on-Trent in England, Williams’ stressful relationship with his father Peter Williams, who left the family to achieve success as a variety artist, and Williams’ beginnings with the Boy band “Take That”. Drug addiction and the later breakthrough as a solo artist are also discussed.
“Didn’t want to upset him”
But it’s not just William’s father who doesn’t come off particularly well in the entertainer’s biopic, but also the 50-year-old’s former “Take That” colleague, Gary Barlow (53). “They were traumatic times,” said Williams, who didn’t want to upset his former colleague with the film scenes. “But I had to tell my story.” Director Gracey also explained that Williams did not want to delete any of the film scenes, no matter how painful they were or showed the entertainer’s bad sides. “I’m an asshole in the whole movie,” Williams said of his own role.
The singer explained during the premiere that “Better Man” was his most important project after the song “Angels”: “I need it to enable me to do everything I want to do before I die,” said the 50-year-old. year olds. “Better Man – The Robbie Williams Story” will be shown in German cinemas from January 2nd, 2025.
