Citizen environmental literacy, axis of the National Meeting of Environmental Education 2024

With the support of the Euroclima program, the Undersecretariat of Environment brought together key actors in the educational field with the purpose of promoting and updating strategies linked to environmental care and sustainable development.

The Undersecretary of Environment of the Nation, headed by Ana Lamas, organized the “National Meeting of Environmental Education 2024. Challenges and Strategies”, an interdisciplinary space for sharing learning strategies and exchanging experiences on environmental education, in the non-formal areas of education, information and communication technologies and the media.

Within the framework of the meeting, the Secretary of Tourism, Environment and Sports, Daniel Scioli, highlighted the value of environmental education to “raise awareness, promote all types of initiatives, such as renewable energies and good practices, share experiences and provide knowledge”, in terms of generating “truly sustainable activities, especially, from local communities to large urban conglomerates.”

The official also pointed out: “In the case of an industry like tourism, we see the growing demand for proximity to nature, to take care of the fauna and flora, and to look for everything that involves facilitating sustainable productive ventures. “It is the spirit of all the work that is being carried out here.”

The conferences, held on December 5 and 6 in the main auditorium of the Environment agency, had the support of the Euroclima Program of the European Union, and the cooperation of the International Foundation for Ibero-America for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP). They are framed in the ACE-Argentina Action Plan, a transversal proposal in public policies that seeks to generate and articulate capacities and commitments that promote a journey in the consolidation of approaches and actions to empower, through climate action, citizens and institutions in pursuit of producing transformations against the impacts of climate.

In her speech, the undersecretary thanked the guests and representatives of the various institutions and sectors for their presence, and urged them to participate in the conference so that “we can meet, listen to each other, reflect, propose and participate through playful and dynamics specific to the field of environmental education, with the aim of generating synergies that lead us to enhance the experiences that each one has already been developing from their various places.”

In this sense, he stressed that “the articulation of multiple actors and institutions committed to the comprehensive development of our country is the dynamic engine that gives life to the letter of the law on comprehensive environmental education and constitutes the great challenge for the implementation of strategies.” environmental education”.

Furthermore, Lamas referred to the world situation and the development potential for the country, for which not only the incorporation of knowledge is a requirement but also the acquisition of new innovative tools. Along these lines, he commented: “We live in times of great dynamism and change, both in the context of public policies and in global geopolitics, with the emergence of new actors and protagonists in a complex and changing world, in a framework of energy transition. , with a growing interest in the opportunities that arise for Argentina and with concrete implications for economic and social actors in all instances and areas of the country. And he added: “It is a paradigm shift that will require a lot of technical training, but also a lot of work in formal and non-formal education, at all public and private levels.” “On the other hand, the comprehensive development of our country requires us to incorporate, in addition to knowledge, new technologies that enable us to facilitate environmental management processes and minimize our impacts,” the official concluded.

Also participating in the event were the cooperation delegate of the European Union, Pablo Iglesias Rumbo, directors of the Undersecretariat of Environment, environmental education representatives of the provinces and representatives of civil society organizations with environmental commitment.
