In 2023, Edward Berger’s war drama “Nothing New in the West” won four Oscars. Now the Wolfsburg-born director is in the awards race with “Konklave” – the film can hope for six Globes.
Edward Berger (54) is back on the road to success in Hollywood: The Wolfsburg-born director’s film “Conclave” is nominated for six Golden Globes – making it one of the big favorites of the trophy ceremony. The Vatican thriller (English title “Conclave”) is one of six candidates in the top category of “Best Drama”.
The film is also in the running in the categories of director (Berger), leading actor (Ralph Fiennes), supporting actress (Isabella Rossellini), film music (Volker Bertelmann) and screenplay (Peter Straughan). “Conclave” is based on a novel by the British Robert Harris (“Fatherland”). After the death of a fairly progressive pope, intrigues and surprises influence the election of the new head of the church.
In 2023, the literary film adaptation “Nothing New in the West” by the Austrian-Swiss Berger was nominated for nine Oscars. At that time it won four trophies – as best international film, for cinematography, production design and for the film music by Volker Bertelmann.
The Golden Globe Awards nominations in 27 film and television categories were announced in Beverly Hills. More than 300 journalists from all over the world vote on the award winners. The trophies, in the shape of a gold-colored globe, are scheduled to be awarded on January 5, 2025 in Beverly Hills.
