Fuss about Marius Borg Høiby: He didn’t stop his withdrawal after all

Alcohol, drugs and violence: Several allegations have been made against Marius Borg Høiby. But his lawyer clearly denies new media reports. What had happened?

According to his lawyer, the Norwegian princess’s son Marius Borg Høiby underwent treatment immediately after his release from custody. He is still there, Høiby’s defender Øyvind Bratlien told the NTB news agency and other Norwegian media.

Høiby is determined to continue rehabilitation, even if it is demanding, said Bratlien. It was not clear from the information whether this was a classic withdrawal. However, the newspaper “Aftenposten” reported that Høiby was being treated for problems with intoxicants.

New allegations have been made against the eldest son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit since this summer. These recently included several alleged sexual crimes, which he denies. As a result of the new allegations, he was also held in custody for a week, but was released again on November 27th. All allegations against him so far are accusations – he has still not been charged with any of the points.

Marius Borg Høiby: psychological problems and substance abuse

After initial allegations of bodily harm and property damage, he admitted in August that he had become violent towards his girlfriend at the time while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine and had destroyed things in her apartment. In a written statement at the time, he reported psychological problems and also that he had been struggling with drug abuse for a long time, which is why he had been treated in the past. He would resume this treatment, the text said.

Marius Borg Høiby is the eldest of Mette-Marit’s three children and the stepson of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon. The 27-year-old belongs to the royal family, but does not have the title of prince and is not an official member of the Norwegian royal family.
