Jay-Z and rape allegations: Attack is the best defense

Rape allegations
Angry and aggressive: What makes Jay-Z’s statement so special

Jay-Z is accused of rape in a civil lawsuit. The rapper himself defends himself against this – with an unconventional statement.

When celebrities publicly respond to allegations, their statements are often polite, factual and decisive. Most of the time, every word is carefully considered and discussed with your own lawyers. However, Jay-Z takes a different approach. In a lengthy statement, the rapper commented on a civil lawsuit accusing him of rape. He explains why he goes on the offensive with his origins.

Jay-Z’s statement is unusual

“You made a terrible mental error by thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same,” Beyoncé’s husband told Tony Buzbee. The Houston attorney is representing an unnamed woman who is accusing P. Diddy and Jay-Z of rape in a civil lawsuit, claiming she was 13 years old at the time.

“I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the public housing in Brooklyn. We don’t play these kinds of games. We have a very strict code and honor. We protect children,” he continues. The New York City borough’s public housing facilities are notorious for their crime.

It’s not the only noticeable thing in the statement of the musician, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter. Right at the beginning of his statement, the 55-year-old goes on the attack. Carter writes that his own lawyer received an “attempt to blackmail” him from an “idiotic lawyer,” thereby indicating that he apparently wrote the statement himself. “He expected that the nature of these allegations and the publicity would lead me to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me expose you as the fraudster in a very public way , who you are. So no, I won’t give you a SINGLE RED PENNY!!!” Jay-Z clarifies.

Attack is the best defense

The sheer anger can be seen in every sentence from the musician. He underlines this by mentioning his family. Jay-Z has three children with singer Beyoncé Knowles who could now suffer from the allegations against their father. “My only sorrow is for my family,” says the musician. He and his wife now have to “explain people’s cruelty and greed” to their children. Towards the end of his statement, Jay-Z attacks Tony Buzbee again. “My heart and support goes out to the real victims in the world who see their life story used for profit by this ambulance chaser in a cheap suit.”

But it’s not just the rapper’s words that are special, but also the fact that he published such a long and personal statement. Because he and Beyoncé usually hold back on things like that. When their marriage hit rock bottom in 2013, they kept quiet, even after elevator security camera videos went viral showing Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, angrily lashing out at Jay-Z.

It was only years later, in 2016, that Beyoncé seemed to process her husband’s alleged infidelities musically and the successful album “Lemonade” was created. The two usually categorically refuse interviews. They prefer to control the narrative themselves rather than comment on rumors and press reports. However, Shawn Corey Carter’s current strategy appears to be: offense is the best defense.
