Pamela Anderson is nominated for a Golden Globe for the first time with “The Last Showgirl”. The 57-year-old is overwhelmed.
What an emotional milestone for Pamela Anderson (57): 35 years after starting her career as a “Playboy” model, the actress is nominated for a Golden Globe for the first time. For her leading role in “The Last Showgirl” by director Gia Coppola (37), she is in the running for the coveted trophy next year.
“I am grateful, overwhelmed and blessed,” “I share this wonderful nomination with the ‘Last Showgirl’ family, my family and my hard-working companions on this interesting journey.”
“It’s never too late to dream, to start again, to stay open to possibilities – we’re not all that lucky,” she continued.
Prominent competition
The 57-year-old is competing against top-class colleagues in the “Best Actress in a Drama Film” category. There are four Oscar winners among the nominees: Angelina Jolie (49) for “Maria”, Nicole Kidman (57) for “Babygirl”, Tilda Swinton (64) for “The Room Next Door” and Kate Winslet (49) for “Lee”. Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres (59) completes the category with her role in “I’m Still Here”.
In “The Last Showgirl,” Anderson portrays the gentle Las Vegas dancer Shelly, whose life is at a turning point when her long-standing show engagement is about to end after decades. Together with her colleagues – played by Kiernan Shipka (25) and Brenda Song (36) – she has to face an uncertain future. The relationship with her estranged adult daughter Hannah (Billie Lourd, 32) also needs to be mended.
“The Marilyn of her time”
Director Coppola compared Anderson to another icon in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: “She’s Marilyn [Monroe] of our time.” She came to this realization while watching Anderson’s revealing documentary “Pamela, A Love Story” from 2023.
After decades in the entertainment industry with roles in shows like “Baywatch,” “Listen Who’s Got It” and “Borat,” Anderson is now being recognized as a serious actress and award contender for the first time. The Golden Globe Awards will air live on CBS and Paramount+ on January 5th.
