Esther Sedlaczek is not only a presenter, but above all a mother. In an interview she talks about concerns about social media.

The popular sports presenter Esther Sedlaczek (39) is a mother of two and combines family life and work in an exemplary manner. But one thing worries her about her children growing up, she now reveals. Social media creates needs that you no longer have control over, even as an adult, said the “Sportschau” presenter.

“When I scroll through a feed, I come away with a thousand ideas and think to myself that the jacket was nice and so was that,” Sedlaczek explains why she suddenly deals with things that she simply doesn’t need: “I want for mine Children that they are happy with what they have.” Social media “unfortunately” contributes to people no longer being satisfied with what they have: “Because you get documented what everyone else supposedly has.” This creates a culture of need and, to a certain extent, a culture of envy that would not exist in this form, Sedlaczek continued.

Esther Sedlaczek: “I’m already thinking about it”

There are also several studies that show that social media can be incredibly unhealthy, especially for adolescents. “Ideals are being created that don’t correspond to reality. That worries me a lot. This is something that dominates the everyday lives of young people these days, and I’m already thinking about how I can somewhat control this with my children.” says Sedlaczek.

Esther Sedlaczek doesn’t mind that the comments on her own Instagram account are often about her appearance and less about skills: “I don’t worry about it because I’m very aware of my skills.” She doesn’t let that bother her: “I do my job and concentrate on it.”
