Nicole Kidman and Ariana Grande are Golden Globe contenders. Here’s how the two feel about their respective nominations.
Ariana Grande (31) is in the running for a Golden Globe for her performance in the musical adaptation “Wicked”. The singer and actress reveals how she feels about potentially being able to hold the trophy, which is considered a barometer for the coveted Oscar, in her hands.
“It’s just so surreal and I’m deeply grateful. We were very immersed in the work and I was so grateful to have the chance to do the work and I was so excited to do it every day,” admitted Ariana Grande humbly. She herself has already seen the film (currently in cinemas) ten times.
The American wants to make her fans proud with the award. “Because my fans have grown with me through so many different phases and eras of music and phases of my life, and in the way they have embraced Glinda (her character in the film, editor’s note) and ‘Wicked’ and for were there to support me…” Grande seems to be already practicing her acceptance speech. “They have embraced this new chapter in a way that I am deeply grateful for. I really want to make them proud.”
Grande was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role alongside Selena Gomez (32) for “Emilia Pérez”, Felicity Jones (41) for “The Brutalist”, Margaret Qualley (30) for “The Substance”, Isabella Rossellini (72 ) for “Conclave” and Zoe Saldaña (46) for “Emilia Pérez”.
Nicole Kidman is grateful for sex roles
Nicole Kidman (57) found out for the 17th time that she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the erotic thriller “Babygirl” (released in German cinemas January 16th). “To still be relevant in this world and in this industry, working on the films that I love, feels wonderful,” Kidman told shortly after the nominations were announced.
“I grew up with all those Adrian Lyne movies (“9 1/2 Weeks,” editor’s note),” said the Hawaii native about the appeal of erotic films. “They were huge films when we were growing up. And so it was exciting that director Halina Reijn then wrote something in that genre – but subverted it and made it very, very feminine.” In “Babygirl,” Kidman’s character lives out her long-suppressed sexual desires.
The 57-year-old is competing in the category of Best Actress in a Film Drama against Oscar-winning colleagues such as Angelina Jolie (49) for “Maria”, Tilda Swinton (64) for “The Room Next Door” and Kate Winslet (49) for “Lee” . Fernanda Torres (59) completes the category with her leading role in “I’m Still Here” and Pamela Anderson (57) in “The Last Showgirl”.
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 5th. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on US television.
