As artists and a couple, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have dominated the music industry for decades. But now there are serious allegations against the rapper. A look at the relationship between the two.
The story of Beyoncé and Jay-Z begins in the late 90s. She is 18 and is enjoying success with the girl band Destiny’s Child, he is 30 and one of the most influential men in the rap scene. Friendship turns into love, together they produce numerous hits, the wedding follows in 2008 and their three children are born in 2012 and 2017.
Over the years, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s marriage has had to overcome a number of crises and conflicts, most notably the rapper’s infidelity. Both have dealt with the topic on different albums. But now Jay-Z is facing particularly serious allegations. There are already more than 100 civil lawsuits in connection with the abuse scandal involving musician Sean “Diddy” Combs, one of which, filed in October, has been expanded to include a prominent name: Jay-Z.
Jay-Z calls the allegations “despicable”
An anonymous plaintiff claims she was raped by Combs and Jay-Z in September 2000. The incident is said to have occurred at a party on the sidelines of the MTV Video Music Awards in New York. The alleged victim was therefore only 13 years old.
Jay-Z, who was already friends with Beyoncé at the time, denies the allegations and calls them “disgusting” in a statement. In addition, the family presents itself as a unit. Beyoncé and Jay-Z pose with their older daughter Blue Ivy at the premiere of the Disney film “Mufasa: The Lion King” in Los Angeles. The twelve-year-old attracts a lot of attention in an opulent golden robe – and thus distracts for a moment from the headlines about her father.
