While there were persistent rumors that the role would go to Jacob Elordi (Priscilla), Butler will finally be the protagonist according to the Variety portal. The film, which has a script by Scott Z. Burns (The Laundromat), will not be a remake of the 2000 film, but a new adaptation of Ellis’ novel.
What will the new American Psycho movie be like?
In the original film, which was released in 2000 and is set in the ’80s, Christian Bale plays Patrick Bateman, a Wall Street yuppie and serial killer. Under the magnifying glass of Guadagnino, known for Call Me By Your Name, Challengers and, more recently, queerthe new version of the book could have a greater erotic emphasis than the original horror satire. Guadagnino has also ventured into the genre in Suspiria and Bones and All. While Butler is set to play the lead role in the film, Guadagnino could show the character of Patrick Bateman in a very different way than his previous incarnation.
Guadagnino has just finished filming After the Huntstarring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield. His two previous films, Queer and Challengers, were nominated for Golden Globes. Daniel Craig (Queer) was nominated for best actor, while Zendaya competes for the best actress award in Challengers, which is also nominated for best film (musical or comedy) and best music.
