Fame made Robbie Williams sick. Now his daughter also wants to become a star, as the singer revealed to Sandra Maischberger.

Robbie Williams (50) doesn’t want his children to see the new film about his life. “Better Man – The Robbie Williams Story” opens in German cinemas on January 2nd. Now Williams was a guest on Sandra Maischberger’s (58) TV show “Maischberger” on Erste. The singer not only reported on the self-doubt and psychological problems discussed in the film, but also about his family life.

His four children weren’t supposed to see “Better Man,” Williams revealed. The twelve-year-old daughter Teddy watched the film secretly. The singer added of his eldest child: “Teddy is the one who wants to be famous the most. In fact, a lot more than I ever wanted. It’s terrible.” He tried to explain it to her. “It won’t give you any answers,” he told her, “but of course she won’t listen to me.” After the film, she asked him to talk to him and said: “Now I understand it.”

“I had no future prospects”

When asked if he would approve of his daughter – like him in Take That – wanting to be part of a band at 16, Robbie Williams hesitated: “I don’t know,” he said, adding his daughter’s attitude to it doesn’t have to be the same as his back then. But he thinks “16 years is a bit too young”.

For him, the band was “the only way” to “get out of my humble social circumstances and make something of myself.” The singer further explained: “I have a reading and spelling problem. I have an arithmetic disorder, I failed miserably in all my exams. I had no prospects for the future.” But his daughter is “a Nepo baby”. She has the choice to decide what she wants. “It makes me very happy that she has the opportunities that I didn’t have.”

Robbie Williams is portrayed as a monkey

Robbie Williams worked on “Better Man” for several years and really enjoyed the fact that there was now a film about him, as he told Maischberger, among other things. The film is based on the true story of “the meteoric rise, dramatic fall and remarkable resurgence of the British pop superstar,” it says in advance.

Directed by Michael Gracey (“Greatest Showman”), the film is told from Williams’ perspective, from childhood to being the youngest member of the boy band Take That to his unprecedented success as a solo artist.

The British singer is portrayed in the film by actor Jonno Davies (32) in the form of a monkey. While Davies takes on the role of the younger Robbie, the singer can be heard in voiceover and later plays the older version of himself.
