They assure that the cut is well below what is promoted in Mercosur. “The current regime is exhausted,” warned representatives of three entities.
The year closes with more doubts than certainties for the productive sector related to biofuelswhich has a strong presence in Catamarca, Córdoba, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Misiones, Jujuy, Salta, Santa Fe and Tucumán. Without a new law for the activity, despite assurances that the Government had committed to approving a project, and with values well below gasoline, a summit of entities expressed the “undelayable need” to have a new legal framework for biofuels, which projects a future of expansion and consolidation of the production and consumption of bioethanol and biodiesel, among other non-fossil fuels. He considered that “the current regime is exhausted”.

The meeting of the entities featured the president of the League of Bioenergy Provinces (LPB) and secretary of Energy Planning of Córdoba, Sergio Mansur; Jorge Feijoopresident of the Argentine Sugar Center (CAA), already Patrick Adamexecutive director of the Corn Bioethanol Chamber (Biomaíz). It was held at the CAA headquarters, in the City of Buenos Aires. Another focus of the meeting was to analyze the new biofuels bill presented by Libertad Avanza in the Chamber of Deputies, which was added to the one agreed upon by the Bioenergetic League of Provinces, with the support of provincial governments and producers. Among the latter, it was expected that there would be a new law before the end of the year but the treatment was delayed and the debate will move to next year.
“We want to work first on the common points, such as the increase in the use of biofuels. The idea is to reach the parliamentary debate as soon as possible with an integrated project that has greater political and productive support,” agreed Mansur, Feijoo and Adam , in a statement. They considered that the League of Bioenergy Provinces and the private sector “will work to find a project that can integrate the best proposals that both projects have: on the one hand, the project already presented by the League, the result of consensus between biofuel-producing provinces and their productive sectors; and on the other, the one presented by the representative of La Libertad Avanza, Lorena Villaverde“. The League of Bioenergy Provinces groups Catamarca, Córdoba, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Misiones, Jujuy, Salta, Santa Fe and Tucumán.

stepped cut
During an interview on the radio program “Aire de Campo”, Adam referred to the plans for a new biofuels law. “We have corn to throw out the window and we are not taking advantage of it like Mercosur does, which promotes a 24% cut with bioethanol in gasoline, while in Argentina it is 12%,” he explained.
The Biomaíz manager pointed out that the delay in the cut in gasoline and diesel with biofuels is due to pressure from hydrocarbon companies. “They don’t see the opportunity that Argentina is losing”said. He recalled that in Mercosur the countries that produce biofuels promote a cut in gasoline with 24% with bioethanol, while in Argentina it is 12%.
