As cell phone models advance, unfortunately some are left out of updates. Find out what they are.
Every year WhatsApp updates its list of compatible operating systemsleaving certain devices out of reach. This phenomenon, which affects millions of users, raises questions about the technical and commercial reasons behind this decision.
The content you want to access is exclusive to subscribers.
The main cause of obsolescence in some devices is technological advancement. WhatsApp is constantly introducing new features that require greater processing, storage and security capabilities. Older operating systems cannot support these updates due to technical limitations, such as outdated processors or insufficient memory.

Additionally, technology companies, including WhatsApp, stop developing security patches for older versions of operating systems, which could expose users to vulnerabilities.

On which cell phones WhatsApp will stop working
Models that will no longer be supported include popular phones from brands such as Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony and Motorola, among others:
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Note II, S4 Mini.
- HTC: One X, Desire 500.
- LG: Nexus 4, G2 Mini.
- Motorola: Moto G (1st generation), Moto E
These devices, unable to update to Android 5.0, will be affected by not being able to run the application correctly and therefore WhatsApp will stop working on them.
