Sabrina Carpenter: Singer had a crush on Paul McCartney

The US singer Sabrina Carpenter (25) has caused a stir in recent months and years with hits like “Espresso”. She has now revealed on US television that she was once in love with a real music legend – Paul McCartney (82) from the Beatles.

“When I was very, very young, my father played me ‘Rocky Raccoon’ for the first time and I was so fascinated by that song and the songwriting that I fell in love with Paul McCartney,” Carpenter says. But that wasn’t enough: “I was convinced that this was my husband, my future husband.”

“But he was quite old and I was so young that I didn’t understand that he was much older than me,” explains the singer. At the time, she looked at all these photos and thought that he might be ten years older than her. “I didn’t understand mathematics, I was a child.”

At the beginning of 2024, Carpenter got the chance to meet her childhood love. The two met at the MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony. Host Stephen Colbert (60) also shows a photo of McCartney and Carpenter together at the event on his show.

The singer remembers that tears immediately formed in her eyes at the time, “and then he was just so normal and casual and so charming.” For her it felt like she was in some kind of alternative reality. Carpenter compared the whole thing to the “Upside Down” from the hit series “Stranger Things,” only “much happier.”
