Soon it will be time for big family reunions again. Does it always have to be harmonious? Sönke Wortmann says what he thinks about it.
According to director Sönke Wortmann (65), things don’t just have to be harmonious in the family. “It is possible to love one another, but not necessarily to like one another,” said the filmmaker (“The First Name”) of the German Press Agency. “Dispute is realistic, and so is reconciliation.” That’s what his new comedy “The Nickname” is about, in which a large family meets in an Alpine hotel. There is celebration – and argument.
The director’s summary: “In the end, everyone loves each other again or respects each other again. And then you look forward to the next argument when you know that things will be okay in the end.”
Wortmann is familiar with such debates as long as they take place in the analogue world. He has no experience with hostility on the Internet. “I’ve never had a shitstorm and probably never will. Unless people find out my home address and write me a letter,” jokes the filmmaker. What makes him so safe? The fact that he’s not on social media.
