The locomotive sees black: two unmaskings on “Masked Singer”

The semi-finals of ProSieben’s puzzle show are turning into a big farewell to actresses – two of them have to take off their masks. Both had to struggle with special problems.

The train left in the semi-finals for the locomotive – and it’s too hot a place for the fire salamander: two well-known actresses were kicked out of the ProSieben show “The Masked Singer”. In the Saturday evening edition, actress Jessica Schwarz (“Buddenbrooks”, “Romy”) initially received too few votes from viewers, and later her professional colleague Mimi Fiedler (“Tatort”) suffered the same fate. Both women failed just before the finale of the show.

According to the rules, they had to take off the masks they had hidden under in previous weeks to avoid being recognized. Black emerged from the costume of a fire salamander with large, glowing eyes. When she took off her mask, she saw extremely surprised faces. In particular, presenter Palina Rojinski, who is on the show’s advice team and had no idea, was dismayed. “We’ve known each other for 15 years!” she exclaimed. “We know each other really well too!” Nevertheless, she didn’t suspect black under the amphibian costume and guessed it was actress Annette Frier.

Mimi Fiedler came into the show at the last minute

The situation was very similar with Mimi Fiedler (49). She was dressed as a locomotive and, after the revelation, was surprised that no one had guessed her identity. Moderator Hugo Egon Balder (74), who had also guessed, told her: “Hugo! You sang at my wedding!” Balder didn’t really know how to defend himself. He unsuspectingly guessed that the locomotive was his television colleague Katrin Bauerfeind (42).

However, Mimi Fiedler revealed even more. She had come to the rail vehicle costume in an unusual way – just before departure, so to speak. At the beginning of “The Masked Singer” season she spontaneously stepped in for the role. The person originally intended for the locomotive was canceled at short notice. She doesn’t know who it was.

“My management called and said: What are you doing tomorrow?” reported the actress, who was once known as forensic scientist Nika Banovic in Stuttgart’s “Tatort”. Then she was told that the engine on “Masked Singer” had gotten sick. She agreed without much preparation.

The fire salamander has a “nasty shoulder”

Jessica Schwarz also had to struggle with special problems, as she revealed. She has had “a nasty shoulder” and an inflamed biceps for several weeks. That is really painful. The problem was anesthetized for the performance on Saturday evening.

But Schwarz – once a “Bravo girl”, then a Viva presenter and now a character actress – didn’t let that take away from her happy mood. “My mother actually guessed me,” she reported. Likewise her sister. Both of them had been asking her for years if she wanted to go to “The Masked Singer”. It was “a total dream” for her, said Schwarz.

Saturday night’s edition of the show marked the contestants’ crucial step towards the show’s finale on December 21st. There are now, among other things, a jellyfish, a panda and a pirate. In the previous episodes, singer Lou Bega (Snowman), former handball professional Pascal Hens (Rhino), cabaret artist Maren Kroymann (Lady Ananas) and presenter Madita van Hülsen (Leek) had to take off their masks and leave the stage.

“The Masked Singer” is now in its eleventh season. Once again celebrities appear as singers, but hide their true identities behind large costumes. Only her voice and mysterious clues give any idea who is on stage. Normally they are exposed if they get too few votes from the audience – or end up winning the final.
