Did Prince Andrew fall into the China trap? Debate about the danger of spies

Prince Andrew may have had business dealings with a Chinese spy – now the country is discussing the dangers posed by the great power.

Britain debates the dangers posed by China. The reason is the espionage case surrounding Prince Andrew. A confidant of Andrew’s, called “H6”, is said to have worked for China. “I am deeply concerned about the activities of the Chinese Communist Party,” opposition politician Chris Philp told Sky New television. The suspected spy is now no longer allowed to enter Great Britain.

Prince Andrew, the brother of King Charles III, had appointed the businessman as his adviser and promised him ties to the royal family, the Times newspaper reported. The man is also said to have met former heads of government David Cameron and Theresa May.

Prince Andrew: stopped all contact

The Chinese Foreign Ministry rejected the espionage allegations. Andrew said he had stopped all contact with the man on the advice of the British government when doubts were raised.

To Andrew’s credit, as soon as he was warned, he broke off contact with the suspected spy, said Chris Philp of the Conservative Party. “But this shows that the risks are there and everyone needs to be very vigilant.” An expert from the organization Index on Censorship said the case could be a wake-up call.

Support from ex-wife Fergie

Andrew still has close ties to China from his time as the British government’s trade envoy from 2001 to 2011. Because of his involvement in the abuse scandal surrounding US entrepreneur Jeffrey Epstein, the 64-year-old no longer performs official duties for the British royal family.

Meanwhile, his ex-wife, Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, assured him that she would continue to support him in the future. In an article for the Sunday Times, written before the latest revelations about the alleged spy, the 65-year-old wrote: “I won’t let him down.”
