“The most important shipyard in Patagonia”
In this regard, Torres expressed that “after practically a year of management, we have achieved something that seemed very difficult” and highlighted the Law for the Promotion of the Naval Industry, recently approved by the Legislature, which “will allow that industry to strengthen, attracting investments”.
“This shipyard has a very important symbolism, because when one enters Comodoro and sees that abandoned warehouse, in one of the most thriving cities in Argentina, it draws a contrast that shows the decline of many years, where decisions were made by the State. to benefit some friends of power, instead of making a decision“intelligent networks that would allow progress in a development agenda to generate quality work”, said the head of the provincial Executive.

“For there to be demand, there must be supply and infrastructure, and at a time when the importance of public works is debated, we have to remember the dredging that we decided to carry out at the beginning of the year, which involved an investment of more than $4,000 million , which we did thinking about the future,” said Torres, pointing out that “the port of Comodoro Rivadavia had not been dredged for 18 years because it was considered ‘secondary’ and had never been seen for its real potential: but Today, it will be a gateway to different industries, including renewable energy when we see many of the mills that will enter pass through it.”
“Next year,” the president explained, “we are going to see one hundred tons of polymers entering through this port, and why not, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship; for that to happen, we have to do the infrastructure and also plan actions.
“This shipyard is going to generate work, today it is a reality and we can tell all the people of Chubut, and especially the people of Comodor, that in their city we are going to have the most important shipyard in all of Patagonia,” concluded Torres.
Call for tenders
For his part, the mayor of Comodoro Rivadavia, Othar Macharashvilihighlighted that “after many years, the process for the construction of the shipyard begins, which long ago was an example of laziness and the naturalization of what should not be done,” highlighting “the political and technical decisions of the provincial government, because the dredging of the port has already been done and now it is necessary to organize the space and for the shipyard to be extremely useful, generating employment sources and economic development for the province.
The signing of the “National Public Tender No. 1/2024 APPCR Concession of Use for the Occupation and Exploitation of public domain property Property called Shipyard – Sector 6 – Lot 2 – Port of Comodoro Rivadavia – Shipyard Infrastructure and Superstructure”, was carried out by Governor Ignacio Torres and the administrator of the Port of Comodoro Rivadavia, Digna Hernando.
