Prince Andrew will probably have to celebrate Christmas without his family. King Charles’ brother is linked to a suspected Chinese spy. This completes the measure.
According to the media, Prince Andrew, who has once again found himself in negative headlines, will not celebrate Christmas in Sandringham with the British royals as usual. This was reported by the BBC, among others, citing palace circles. The second eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II has been in the media spotlight again in recent days because a former confidant of his is suspected of spying for China.
It is hoped in the palace that the younger brother of King Charles III. will “honourably” refrain from attending any family events, the BBC report continued. The Buckingham Palace press office could not immediately be reached for comment.
Suspected spy denies allegations
Chinese businessman Yang Tengbo had previously rejected allegations of espionage and described corresponding reports as “completely false”. He said through his lawyer that concerns that the British Home Office had expressed against him were unfounded.
The British Home Office banned Tengbo from entering the UK last year due to security concerns. Accordingly, he is said to have secretly worked for the Chinese Communist Party. An appeal against the decision was rejected last week.
According to reports, Tengbo was once a close confidant of Prince Andrew. However, the royal said he broke off contact after being informed of the concerns by security authorities.
Prince Andrew was always there when he went to church at Christmas
For the brother of King Charles, the second eldest son of Queen Elizabeth, who died in 2022, the previous connection to the controversial businessman is further damage to his image.
From mom’s favorite to outcast: the deep fall of Prince Andrew
On February 19, 1960, Prince Andrew was born as the third child and second son of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip. The Queen and her husband already had heir to the throne, Prince Charles, and daughter Anne. Apparently Andrew was always the monarch’s favorite child. Because of previous connections to US multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019 and was at the center of an abuse scandal, Andrew has had to largely withdraw from public life. However, despite the scandal, he was the last to attend the traditional Christmas Day church visit near the royal country estate of Sandringham in the north-eastern English county of Norfolk.
