PAMI: how can I access free medications in the last days of 2024?

PAMI implement medication list adjustments starting this month. Some will continue to be free, while others will have significant discounts of up to 80%.

The objective is for its more than 5 million members to continue with their treatments, facilitating access to essential medicines. Find out which medications will remain free of charge, which will have a significant discount and how to access them.

Free medications and up to 80% discount at PAMI

The PAMI Drug Program includes a list of essential drugs that will continue to be free. Guaranteeing full coverage of those special treatments of diseases that are protected by law throughout the country.

Among those that will continue to be free are:

  • Diabetes treatment
  • Oncology medications
  • Oncohematological medications
  • Hemophilia treatment
  • Treatment of HIV and Hepatitis B and C
  • Transplant medications
  • Medications for hematopoietic disorders
  • Medications for rheumatoid arthritis
  • Medications for fibrocystic diseases
  • Intravitreal ophthalmic medications
  • Osteoarthritis Medications
  • Medications for chronic kidney failure and hyperparathyroidism

On the other hand, the organization offers important discounts of up to 80% on the “PAMI price”, your preferential rate. These benefits apply to medications indicated to treat serious or acute illnesses. In the case of drugs occasional usethe discount is smaller, reaching up to 40%.

Below are some examples of discounted prices:

  • Enalapril (antihypertensive): without coverage it costs $8,419.9, but with PAMI the price drops to $1,426.3 (80% discount).
  • Alprazolam (anxiolytic, 0.5 mg for 30 tablets): from an original cost of $5,803.5, it goes to $1,742.8 with PAMI coverage (50% discount).
  • Levothyroxine (for hypothyroidism): without coverage it costs $9,536.3, while with PAMI it costs $1,138.4.
  • Acetylsalicylic acid (antiplatelet agent): its price of $6,797.1 without coverage is reduced to $2,083 with PAMI (60% discount).

How to process free medications?

In-person procedure at agency

For the in-person procedure it is only necessary to bring your DNI and your PAMI credential. It is no longer necessary to attend with the sworn declaration, and this is because whoever assists you will be able to see your personal data in the system if you meet the requirements to access the social subsidy.

If you meet the requirements and request up to 4 medications, it will be approved and you can go directly to the pharmacy to pick them up. If you request 5 or more, your GP must complete the form that supports the request.

Process via PAMI website

  1. Enter the PAMI websitego to the “Web Procedures” section and select “medications without charge for social subsidy”. Then, check “Start this procedure”.
  2. Enter your membership number, DNI number and processing number of the latest version of your DNI.
  3. Complete a form contact information indicating whether the person carrying out the procedure is the member or a family member, telephone number and email.
  4. A screen will be displayed with the list of requirements to access the benefit, where you must confirm if you comply with them.
  5. Upon confirmation, 3 questions will appear: if you have corporate assets, if you have a dependent family member with a disability, or if you have a prescription in paper format. If you answer yes to the latter, a space will appear where you can upload the document (photo or .pdf) of the recipe. And if, on the other hand, you select no, don’t worry because you already have your recipes in electronic format.
  6. Then, an optional text field will appear to leave any comments, for example, the names of the medications you are requesting.
  7. Select “Finish uploading documentation”.
  8. Confirm the information provided.

Once these data are confirmed, the process will be started and the case number will appear so that the member can write it down and they will be able to check the status of the process. Response time will be within the next 24 hours.

After completing the procedure (in person or online), to access For outpatient medications and the PAMI medication program, you must ask your GP to send the electronic prescription to the pharmacy. To pick them up, you just have to bring your DNI and PAMI credential. If the holder cannot go, a family member or trusted person can do so by presenting the documentation.
