Robbie Williams: Don’t even think about drinking anymore

The pop star talks about his abstinence from alcohol and his atheism. The Brit, who was once raised Catholic, admits that he wants to behave in a Christian manner without being religious.

According to his own words, pop star Robbie Williams (50) doesn’t miss the rush when he’s abstinent from alcohol. “I don’t see myself as a former alcoholic. I’m just Rob who doesn’t drink,” Williams said in a “Stern” interview. “I just don’t think about drinking anymore. It’s not difficult for me. The difficulty is dealing with life on your own terms without giving up every now and then. You have to endure it.” When he takes time out today, it’s to be creative.

For a long time he accepted that a life as a star would be “overshadowed by sadness, depression and paranoia, by fear, madness, jealousy and bitterness,” said Williams. “I’m grateful that’s changed. It feels really good to be me right now.”

“Today I like Jesus again”

When asked by “Stern” whether he was religious, the Brit said: “No. But I’m thinking about it.” And he explained: “I was raised Catholic, but over time I became more and more of an atheist. Today I like Jesus again. I want to believe that there is a way to behave in a Christian way without being religious.”

The two-hour film “Better Man – The Robbie Williams Story” will be released in cinemas on January 2nd. In it, the musician is portrayed as a computer-generated monkey. It shows the beginnings of his career as a teenager with Take That, the falling out with the boy band, his alcohol addiction and, above all, the difficult relationship with his father.
