Princess Michael of Kent has paid tribute to her late son-in-law and spoken about her health problems.
Princess Michael of Kent (79) and her family have been through a difficult time in recent months. Now she has spoken about her late son-in-law Thomas Kingston (1978-2024) and her health problems.
“He was so kind and so caring”
saying he was “a lovely man, so kind and so caring”. The wife of Prince Michael of Kent, 82, also said the family “never had any idea anything was wrong” before Kingston took his own life in February. The businessman was married to Lady Gabriella Kingston, 43, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
“Tom was a lovely man, so kind and so caring. They were very happy together. We often had them here for Sunday dinner with Freddie and Sophie and the girls. We never had any idea anything was wrong,” said Princess Michael. Her son Freddie Windsor (45), who is married to Sophie Winkleman (44), has two daughters. She still doesn’t know how she can help her daughter deal with the grief over the loss of her husband, the princess reportedly explained in an interview with royal biographer Ingrid Seward for “Majesty Magazine”.
Fall with serious consequences
Princess Michael, who is addressed by family members by her first name, Marie Christine, celebrates her 80th birthday on January 15th. The author of several books has struggled with health problems in recent months. She revealed in the interview that she broke her wrists when she fell down a staircase at Kensington Palace. She has lived in the royal residence since her marriage to Prince Michael, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth (1926-2022), in 1978.
“So many things you rely on, like brushing your teeth, are impossible,” she said of the aftermath of her fall. “I can type on a cell phone with one finger, but I can’t use a laptop. I’ve been told that after an accident like this, one wrong move with the bones still unhealed will put you back where you started.” Late last year, the princess was also apparently diagnosed with a heart problem that required surgery. She told Majesty Magazine: “It shocked me. I still have to rest every afternoon.”
