Ryan Reynolds: He receives Canada’s highest honor

Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds (48) was honored for his efforts. He also thanked “all the people across Canada who help others every day without recognition or pats on the back.” Reynolds joked that he wanted to “break his officer’s medal into a thousand little pieces and divide it.”

The 48-year-old also made his gratitude clear. “Canada, you have given me more than I can ever repay. Thank you for this incredible honor – I promise to use my powers for good… And general hilarity,” Reynolds wrote on his social media account.

The ‘Oder of Canada’ is the state’s highest honor for a civilian in Canada and is awarded according to the Latin motto “Desiderantes meliorem patriam” (translated: “those who desire a better fatherland”). The order, which was founded on July 1, 1967, comprises three levels: ‘Companions of the Order of Canada’, ‘Officers of the Order of Canada’ and ‘Members of the Order of Canada’. In 2020, the total number, including the deceased Canadian medal holders, was 500 Companions, 2,450 Officers and 4,727 Members.

Reynolds is among 88 new officer members of the order appointed by the Governor General of Canada based on suggestions from the public. “Ryan Reynolds has captivated audiences worldwide, particularly as the writer, producer and star of the hit ‘Deadpool’ films,” it says. In recent years, Reynolds has been involved with “Canadian organizations such as Water First Education, Covenant House Vancouver and Sick Kids Foundation,” which has strengthened the country.
