Wham’s “Last Christmas” ahead of Mariah Carey in the charts

52 festive songs are in the top 100 of the German charts this week. Shortly before Mariah Carey could set a record, she was dethroned.

They are eternal competitors in the pre-Christmas charts – now Wham! Mariah Carey was dethroned for the first time in two years. The reason for this is probably a limited new edition that was released on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of “Last Christmas,” as GfK Entertainment informs.

Carey’s 30-year-old Christmas hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was at number one in previous weeks and at number two this week. With a total of 20 weeks at the top of the singles charts, she was close to setting the record as the longest number one hit in Germany. This is 21 weeks and has so far been held by Udo Lindenberg and Apache 207 with “Komet”.

52 holiday songs in the top 100

Just before Christmas, festive songs are taking up all the top spots in the charts this week. Behind Wham! and Carey are Shakin’ Stevens with “Merry Christmas Everyone” (three), Brenda Lee with “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” (four) and José Feliciano with “Feliz Navidad” (five). In total, there are 52 holiday songs in the top 100 this week.

Casper reaches the top of the album charts. His concert recording “Live in Bielefeld” gives the rapper his seventh number one album. They are followed by the US rockers Linkin Park with “From Zero” in second place and the K-pop band Stray Kids with “Hop” in third place. Taylor Swift is back in fourth place this week with “The Tortured Poets Department.” And Michael Bublé secures the only Christmas-themed entry in the album top 5 with “Christmas”.
