Christmas is actually a celebration that is linked to many traditions among the royals. Prince William and Princess Kate want to have a different focus this year.
The British royals’ Christmas celebrations are traditionally similar every year. A few days before the festival, a luncheon is held at Buckingham Palace, at which all family members usually show up. Surprisingly, Prince William and Princess Kate skipped the formal event this year.

Instead, the two traveled to their home in Norfolk with their three children to enjoy the start of the Christmas holidays in peace. The signal is unmistakable: children come first for the Waleses. After a year that Prince William recently described as “brutal,” the five need time for themselves.
While Princess Kate was battling cancer in private, there was wild speculation in the media. When Kensington Palace published a photo of Kate with the children in March, which had been heavily retouched in some places, the rumor mill was even more bubbling. Not only the health challenges, but also the immense public attention may have taken a toll on the couple and their children.
From number girl to duchess: This is how Meghan has changed over the years
Before Meghan Markle got a taste of Hollywood air and later became a duchess, she had to start small on TV in 2006: as a number girl on the game show “Deal or No Deal”. An experience she later looked back on with mixed feelings. “I was grateful for the job, but not for how it made me feel. Namely… not smart. By the way, I was surrounded by smart women who were on stage with me,” she said on an episode of her podcast “Archetypes”. “But that wasn’t the reason we were there. And at the end I went home with a sinking feeling in my stomach because I knew I was so much more than what was being objectified on stage.”

Lots of time with the family
The illness had caused Kate to rethink things, the princess said in September. “Most of all, it reminded William and I to reflect and be grateful for the simple but important things in life that so many of us often take for granted. To simply love and be loved,” she said.
For Prince William, fear for his father may also have been the deciding factor in thinking about his future. King Charles III has cancer, William is the heir to the throne. He will have to decide for himself how he imagines life as a monarch for himself and his family in the future. Most experts agree that William could make the monarchy more modern. With time for your own family and protecting your privacy. Christmas in this “brutal” year for the Wales couple is just the beginning.
