“I want you to die”: Tape recording reveals Marius Borg Høiby’s violence

At the beginning of August, Marius Borg Høiby attacked his ex-girlfriend. He later confessed to the crime. Now tape recordings provide a glimpse of his violence.

Shortly after Marius Borg Høiby was arrested in early August, Norwegian newspapers showed pictures from the apartment of the woman who was attacked by Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son. Objects were destroyed, a mirror was broken, a knife was stuck in the wall.

Marius Borg Høiby: Tape recordings show aggressiveness

The 27-year-old expressed his remorse shortly afterwards. “Last weekend something happened that should never have happened. I committed bodily harm and destroyed objects in an apartment while high on alcohol and cocaine after an argument,” he admitted in mid-August.

Now tape recordings available to the Norwegian newspaper “Se og Hør” provide an insight into the night of the crime. Borg Høiby can be heard in it. His tone: aggressive. “You’ve lost everything,” he says to his ex-girlfriend. “I will destroy your life,” said the Crown Princess’ son. It’s not Borg Høiby’s only threat: “It’s boiling inside me. I want you to die!” he shouts at the young woman in the recording.

Scandals and headlines

A request from the Norwegian newspaper to the 27-year-old’s lawyer was not answered.

After the incident at the beginning of August, negative headlines about Mette-Marit’s son increased. More and more details about his drug use came to light, as did further allegations of violence. Marius is said to have had many criminal friends for several years. Drugs, violence and excesses were supposedly the order of the day.

At the end of November, Borg Høiby had to spend a week in custody after being accused of rape in two cases. The 27-year-old is now in a rehab clinic. The Norwegian Royal Family has been holding back on making statements since the summer. After his stepson was arrested in November, Crown Prince Haakon said on a business trip to Jamaica that he would like to be with his wife to support her.
