For ski legend Christian Neureuther, the second Christmas is just around the corner without his beloved Rosi. This is how he will spend it.

In 2022, ex-ski racer Christian Neureuther (75) was able to celebrate Christmas together with his wife Rosi Mittermaier (1950-2023) for the last time – on January 4, 2023, the athlete lost her battle against cancer at the age of 72. Two years later, Neureuther is still deeply affected by the loss, but the close solidarity of his family gives him the strength to deal with the pain and look forward.

“Rosi has never been away anyway, she’s always there”

This year he will once again spend Christmas Eve with his children Ameli (43) and Felix (40), their partners and their four grandchildren, he revealed. “We celebrate Christmas the way we always celebrated it with Rosi,” said the widower. “Very traditional, always under the same star that shines above the nativity scene. For me, this star means that the whole family comes together.” He added: “Rosi has never been away anyway, she is always there.”

Especially on the festival of love, his family feels a special connection to their deceased wife, mother and grandmother. “Her spirit is then in our room. We talk a lot about her, what she would do now. The grandchildren tell funny stories about grandma.” Even though he’s not a person who constantly looks back, Neureuther said, he enjoys it a lot and “draws strength from it to keep going.”
