Tokyo Hotel stars report after attack

Tokio Hotel spoke out after the attack in Magdeburg. Drummer Gustav was even at the Christmas market himself.

“It was nice at the Christmas market!” wrote Tokio Hotel drummer Gustav Schäfer (36) early on Friday evening. Just a few hours later, he spoke up in shock: “I can’t believe what happened in our city of Magdeburg. We’re doing well, fortunately, but many people weren’t. My thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones,” Schäfer wrote on Instagram that evening.

Tokio Hotel also shared a story on their official Instagram account with a candle and the words “Pray for Magdeburg”. Frontman Bill Kaulitz (35) reported from his skiing vacation and also shared the picture in his Instagram story.

On Saturday, Schäfer spoke up again. He wrote about a black and white photo: “Yesterday should have been a carefree day at the Christmas market in Magdeburg – full of lights, laughter and the smell of Christmas, the festival of love. We feel numb. We only have a few moments separated from a moment that changed everything for many people.”

Nothing happened to them physically, it goes on to say. “But psychologically it feels like the world has stopped for a moment. Thoughts are circling, the heart is heavy, and the question of ‘Why?’ doesn’t let you go.” Schäfer appeals: “Take care of yourselves. Hold on to your loved ones and let us remember together that love and compassion are stronger than fear.”

At the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Tokio Hotel’s hometown, a car drove into a crowd on Friday evening (December 20th). As of Saturday morning, four people had died and more than 200 were injured. The police have arrested the suspected perpetrator.
