Frank Zander’s festival for the homeless is legendary in Berlin. After a health-related break last year, the musician was able to invite people again.
Shortly before Christmas, entertainer Frank Zander organized his big Christmas party for thousands of needy and homeless people in Berlin. Roast goose with red cabbage and dumplings were on the menu at the Hotel Estrel in Neukölln.
Zander’s son Marcus said in the afternoon that there were probably more than 2,500 guests. “Many people have been looking forward to this all year.” Some guests had tears in their eyes. “The people on the street deserve to be treated properly.”
Frank Zander wants to send “warmth” into the world
A minute’s silence was planned because of the devastating attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg. In view of the events, Zander emphasized: “Our celebration should send warmth to the world.” Pop stars such as Marianne Rosenberg and Nino de Angelo were there for the show program. As always, celebrities had also announced themselves to serve – but they “come through the back entrance and have to work here,” said Marcus Zander.
Before the corona pandemic in 2019, around 3,000 people in need were fed and given gifts. During the pandemic, the Zanders were out and about with mobile snack bars. Now Frank Zander was back on a large scale for the first time after missing last year due to health reasons.
Since 1995, the pop star, together with his family and with the support of friends, sponsors and volunteers, has been inviting thousands of poor people to the big celebration before Christmas. For his commitment, the Berlin veteran was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class, and his son Marcus was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit. The entertainer recently founded his own foundation, Caritas.
