Going bald or signing autographs for your mother – “Aging is not for cowards,” says the actor.
According to actor Benno Fürmann (52), getting older is associated with a number of lessons. “Aging is not for cowards,” said Fürmann in the “Audible Rust” podcast. “It’s a silly sentence, but that’s how it is.”
Going bald, for example, “wasn’t fun for me in the traditional sense.” In the first season of the series “Babylon Berlin” he still had a full head of hair, “in the last season he had none at all. So: aging in front of the camera.” It was “a challenge for him to accept that and say that’s how it is now.”
Now he’s over 50 and he had to realize: “That’s you now. That’s not the old man anymore and you’re young and he’s somewhere in the club and you think it’s great that older people still find their way into this shop . But suddenly it’s you. And then a girl says to you: “You have a pretty cool style for your age.” Or he should sign an autograph. “And I ask, ‘What’s your name?’ And she says, ‘No, that’s for my mother.’ Those are just lessons in humility.”
Fürmann explained that he accepted these lessons. But it’s not always easy either. “Sometimes I think: ‘Wow, that’s pretty quick.'”
