The German stars reveal their very personal traditions for Christmas.
Whether it’s homemade curry soup, handwritten letters or waking up the poinsettia – German celebrities have very special rituals for the celebration of love, as they revealed to the news agency spot on news.
While for many people Christmas Eve is traditionally celebrated with sausages and potato salad, Thomas Anders (61) has established his very own culinary tradition: Every year, the singer serves his guests his “legendary, fantastic-tasting curry soup” with shrimp and corn, like his wife Claudia Hess (52) adds. “I only do it once a year,” emphasizes Anders. “When Christmas approaches, the first thing I’m asked is: ‘Will we have this soup again this year?'”
Family traditions
For Victoria Swarovski (31), the focus is on decorating the Christmas tree with the whole family. “Family and Christmas just belong together for me,” says the presenter. It is also a special moment when her father reads a Christmas story. For actress Paula Kalenberg (38), the Christmas tree is also associated with a special tradition: “Our poinsettia at the top of the tree has a little face and sleeps all year round in a small padded box.” On Christmas Eve the star is ceremoniously woken up by the children and hung up.
Steven Gätjen (52) also maintains a very special family tradition: “The gift of the last hour”. “You go out again on Christmas Eve morning and buy one last present; every year someone else gets it. In addition, a kitschy, flashing, extremely colorful Christmas tree is an absolute must, for me it’s simply a must,” reveals the moderator.
Time to pause
Actor Antoine Monot (49) particularly appreciates slowing down during the holidays. “It’s an opportunity to really enjoy time and let everything go once a year,” he explains. For two weeks there will be “no accessibility, no phone calls and no offices and authorities”. Moderator Ruth Moschner (48) also uses the time to pause: “I always try to find time for myself to reflect on the year.”
Create special moments
The family of Carsten Maschmeyer (65) maintains an extraordinary tradition: “It is a family tradition that we write personal letters to each other every year,” reveals the entrepreneur. In it you record “which moments that particularly moved us or made us happy that year”.
Singer Francine Jordi (47) and her family light candles for the deceased ancestors in the cemetery. Afterwards we sing together and drink mulled wine. “Before giving the presents, my mother reads a story in dialect,” says the Swiss woman. “I think traditions are very important because they give you a bit of security.”
For singer Stefanie Hertel (45), Christmas tree decorations are particularly of emotional significance. She decorates her tree with little angels from the Erzgebirge, wooden stars that her grandpa sawed out, and folded stars from her aunt Erika. “It’s particularly festive,” she enthuses.
