Actor Art Evans, star of “Die Hard 2” alongside Bruce Willis, died

The extensive career of Art Evans

Evans was born as Arthur James Evans in Berkeley, California, on March 27, 1942.

Over the course of her five-decade career, Evans appeared in more than 120 films and television shows. His debut as an actor came with a leading role in James Baldwin’s play The Amen Cornerwhich played at Frank Silvera’s Theater of Being in Los Angeles before coming to Broadway in 1965.

In the 1970s he transitioned to the big screen, with some uncredited film roles. He then starred in a 1975 television movie, The Orphan and the Dudebefore racking up multiple television and film credits in the years that followed, including leadbelly in 1976, Youngblood in 1978, M*A*S*H in 1979, The Fall Guy and Christine directed by John Carpenter in 1983 and Hill Street Blues between 1981 and 1984.

His breakthrough role came in 1984, when he played Private Wilkie in the war drama A Soldier’s Story, alongside Denzel Washington, Howard E. Rollins Jr. and Adolph Caesar. The film received three Oscar nominations in 1985, including Best Picture.

A year later, he joined the cast of Nine to Fivea sitcom adapted from the film starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton. Evans appeared on the series alongside Parton’s sister Rachel Parton George, Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers from 1986 to 1988.

In 1985, she also starred in the music video for ‘Go Home’ by Stevie Wondertaken from their twentieth studio album ‘In Square Circle’.

Later, it appeared in Die Hard 2the 1990 sequel to the action thriller starring Bruce Willis. Evans took on the role of Barnes, an air traffic control tower employee who helps John McClane (Willis) stop the terrorists.

Evans’ last role was a voiceover collaboration on the animated series Disney+ The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder in 2022 and 2023.
