Men’s toilet and sauna: Celebrities take selfies in these places

Stars also take it easy on the holidays and are not asked for selfies with their families. Otherwise, celebrities are happy to be available for photos – anywhere.

It used to be autographs, today it’s selfies: celebrities are regularly asked to take a photo together – sometimes in the strangest places.

“It has happened that you are in the public toilet and then suddenly someone hugs you,” reported rock legend Marius Müller-Westernhagen (76) to the German Press Agency. “Or someone follows you around for hours with a camera. You feel a bit like a monkey in the zoo.” Up to a certain point you have to go along with it as a public person. “But of course there are also limits.”

A selfie in front of the sauna – already “weird”

A selfie in the men’s toilet is of course unpleasant – just like being spoken to in the sauna, which is what happened to pop singer Wincent Weiss (31, “Fireworks”).

“The last time I was in a 40-person sauna with my band was two years ago. And that’s crazy when you talk to people who then want to take a photo outside. Being spoken to in the sauna is quite something strange,” says Weiss.

Strange, but not rare. Musician Clueso (44, “Airplane Mode”) has also had experience with this. “I’ve experienced everything: right at the exit of a sauna or in a public swimming pool. Nowadays, wherever people can have a cell phone with them, a selfie situation arises.”

Incognito about the Christmas market

Clueso says he often doesn’t go unnoticed, especially in his native Thuringia. “It’s sometimes difficult for me in Erfurt, for example at the Christmas market. I sometimes walk around like a Hollywood star with a hat and sunglasses so as not to be recognized and buy nuts or almonds.” But the photo requests from his fans are usually friendly and relaxed.

Musician Leony (27), who sang the official song for the European Football Championship (“Fire”) this summer, also knows unusual selfie locations: “In front of the toilet at a motorway rest stop.” And Johannes Strate (44) from the band Revolverheld (“Hold on to me”) remembers a situation on vacation. “In Cape Town, coming out of the water in swimming trunks with a child in my arms. That’s what I meant: ‘Hey, sorry, but it’s really bad right now’.”

Better to take selfies than live like a hermit

Most German celebrities like to take time for a selfie and don’t limit themselves in everyday life. “There was a time when I wasn’t feeling so well and I stopped going out because I didn’t want to be recognized,” says Wincent Weiss. “But that’s even worse when you hide and live like a hermit. But I’ll do anything now.”

His colleague Nico Santos (31, “Better”), who became a father for the first time this year, likes to be more discreet, especially when traveling. “Flying with a mask is a game changer. Especially when you’re traveling with the family, it’s not always nice to look over the seats and see the cell phones you’re being filmed with.”

So if you spot a young man wearing a mask on the plane to Mallorca, maybe take a closer look – it could be Nico Santos, whose family lives on the island.
