With her Christmas hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, Mariah Carey has now celebrated her biggest success in the charts to date.
For many, Mariah Carey’s (55) Christmas song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is as inseparably linked to the celebration of love as “Last Christmas” by Wham!. Every year both titles reliably climb back into the charts and often reach the top. This also applies to Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, which has remained at number one in the US charts for the third week in a row. The popular singer even broke her own chart record.
Mariah Carey reacts to chart record
With its new top ranking, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has remained in pole position on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a full 17 weeks since its release in 1994. The song has replaced Carey’s “One Sweet Day” as her biggest chart success to date. The duet with Boyz II Men stayed at the top for a total of 16 weeks from 1995 to 1996.
“This is amazing! I will never, ever take this for granted,” wrote the five-time Grammy winner on Monday (local time) to celebrate her recent chart success and shared the article “Billboard”.
The singer is said to earn between $600,000 and $1.2 million in royalties from her long-running Christmas hit every December. In the Official German Charts, Carey reached number two with “All I Want for Christmas” last week. “Last Christmas” by the British pop band Wham! took the top spot here.
